The Book of Wars

"And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." - Mathew 24:6

WHEREFORE IT IS SAID IN THE BOOK OF WARS

THE FRUITS OF WAR

At Durham, 1346,

There fell 15,000; at Halidon-Hill and Agincourt,

20,000 each; at Bautzen and Lepanto,

25,000 each; at Austerlitz, Jena and Lutzen,

30,000 each; at Eylau,

60,000 at Waterloo and Quartre Bras, one engagement,

70,000; at Borodino,

80,000; at Fontenoy,

100,000; at Yarmouth,

150,000; at Chalons, no less than

300,000 at Attila's army alone!  The Moors in Spain; about the year 800, lost in one battle 70,000; in another, four centuries later,

180,000, besides

50,0000 prisoners; and in a third

200,000. Still greater was the carnage in ancient times.

At Cannae, 70,000 fell. The Romans alone, in an engagement with the Cimbri and Teutones, lost 80,000.

The Carthaginians attacked Hymera in Sicily with an army of 300,000 men, and a fleet of 2000 ships and 3000 transports; but not a ship nor a transport escaped destruction; and of the troops, only a few in a small boat reached Carthage with the melancholy tidings.

Marius slew, in one battle, 140,000 Gauls, and in another 290,000,

In the battle of Issus, between Alexander and Darius, 110,000 were slain; in that of Arebela, 300,000.

Julius Caeser once annihilated an army of 363,000 Helvetians; in the battle with the Usipetes, he slew 400,00; and in another occasion. he massacred more than 430,000 Germans, who "had crossed the Rhine, with their herds, and flocks, and little ones, in the quest of new settlements."

- Fruits of War, The Treasury of Anecdotes Moral and Religious, William P. Nimmo C.1840

YOU CAN ADD...

There were an estimated 1.5 million casualties reported during the Civil War. A "casualty" is a military person lost through death, wounds, injury, sickness

There were 20 million deaths and 21 million wounded in WW1. The total number of deaths includes 9.7 million military personnel and about 10 million civilians.

An estimated total of 70–85 million people perished in WW2, or about 3% of the 1940 world population.

When I'm reminded of this passage, I think; will the Lord's Book of Wars include the names of all the men that perished in them and how they perished? Will it record acts of valor, wins, losses, brutalities, and the future affects these wars had on countries, widows, orphans, and families of lost loved ones?" Will be there be lessons for us to learn from the Book of Wars throughout Eternity?

I had a dream, and in this dream, I was alive watching a scene from a war movie where thousands of young men had just been killed trying to take a beachhead in WW2. After the watching the scenes from this horrible carnage, I said, "Lord, so many young men died on that day. Many were only 18-20 years old and only got to live on this earth for such a short time." My heart was saddened by what I had seen. In almost an instant in time, I found myself rushed to the future; in Heaven, talking to a young soldier that had actually died on the beach that day.

We were both in our heavenly bodies conversing over the events in our lifetime. He told me of the circumstances of how he wound up on that beach that day and what had happened from his point of view.

I told him about my life and that I had lived to be an old man; when his jaw dropped in astonishment, he looked at me with the same look I had looked at him, when I felt bad for him for living only such a short time on the earth, looked at me and said with amazement,  "You had to live on the earth HOW LONG?"

From my earthly view, I had felt bad for him for only living 18 years. From his Heavenly view, he felt bad for me that I had to live so long on the earth. God's ways are truly not our ways, and His thoughts are truly higher than ours.

FOR MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. -

 Isaiah 5:8-9

That is the right condition; that is the only place of safety; that is the only way in which you can honour God. Kingdom Parables

He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.” - Matthew 13:33

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE A MAN WHO CASTS SEED UPON SOIL

And He was saying, “The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil; and he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows—how, he himself does not know. The soil produces crops by itself; first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head."

- Mark 4:26-29

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE A TREASURE HIDDEN IN THE FIELD

“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it."

- Mark 4:30-34

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN WILL BE COMPARABLE TO TEN VIRGINS

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them."

- Matthew 25:1-13

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE A DRAGNET CAST INTO THE SEA

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind; and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous."

- Matthew 13:47-51

LIKE A MAN ABOUT TO GO ON A JOURNEY

“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents."

- Matthew 25:14-30

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE A LAND OWNER

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the market place."

- Matthew 20:1

FOR THIS REASON THE KINGDOM OF GOD MAY BE COMPARED

"Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. “For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves."

- Matthew 18:21-35

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN MAY BE COMPARED TO A KING

Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come."

- Matthew 22:1-14

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN CAN BE COMPARED TO A MAN

Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away. But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also."

- Matthew 13:24-30

- Mark 4:2

WITH MANY SUCH PARABLES HE SPOKE THE WORD TO THEM

- Mark 4:33

THIS IS WHY I SPEAK TO THEM IN PARABLES

- A. T. Pierson (1837–1911) American Presbyterian Pastor

WE PICTURE THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

And He said, “How shall we picture the kingdom of God, or by what parable shall we present it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the soil, though it is smaller than all the seeds that are upon the soil, yet when it is sown, it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and forms large branches; so that the birds of the air can nest under its shade.”

- Matthew 13:47-52

HE ALSO TOLD THEM A PARABLE

He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old."

- Luke 5:36

NOW THE PARABLE IS THIS

"Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God."

How Can I Be Saved?

You’ve probably seen John 3:16 posted somewhere on a sign, written on a freeway overpass, at a concert, at a sporting event, or even read to you as a little child. This verse is a simple one. There are 20 monosyllables (single words) in the verse. The Gospel is meant to be simple for everyone!

Be sure of your Salvation. Right now, and pray this simple prayer with a sincere heart...
“Lord, forgive me for my sins. I confess that I am a sinner. Come into my heart and make me the person you created me to be. I receive your gift of pardon through Jesus dying for me on the cross to save me. – Amen”

It was once determined in a court of law that a pardon is only a pardon when it is accepted. There is a true story about a man that refused his pardon. A judge ruled that a pardon is only a pardon when it is accepted. When you prayed that prayer and accepted God’s pardon for your sins, you became a new creation in Christ.

The Bible teaches that you are saved by faith through Jesus. Grow in the Grace that was just given to you, seek God in His word (The Bible) and go out tell somebody!
